This report includes fiscal year 2010 data from 346 arts and cultural organizations, events and venues, representing approximately 17% of the 2,000 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in Michigan. These organizations range in budget size from $440 to $59 million and are located in 57 Michigan counties.
The combined total expenditures of the 346 organizations includes the dollars spent on salaries and the purchase of services and materials needed to administer programs and services. These organizations generated more than half a billion dollars in economic activity in Michigan in Fiscal Year 2010, a significant contribution to the state’s economy in the midst of a challenging economic climate.

In 2010, the State of Michigan issued $2,549,774 in grants and contracts to the 346 organizations in the report. These organizations received another $32 million from other government sources, $139 million from other contributions, $500.6 million in earned revenue, and $35 million in other revenue.
These organizations attracted and served millions of visitors of all ages while keeping operations lean and efficient.
