Creativity Feeds Growth

For every $1.00 Michigan invests in arts and culture, $51 is pumped back into the state's ecomony

Michigan depends on the creative state of our economy. Communities, businesses, schools and universities and individuals – a thriving arts and culture sector inspires and drives innovation, with benefits that ripple out at all levels.

New tools for collecting data allow us to measure and understand these impacts in ways that were not possible before.  Creative State Michigan organizes these impacts in 3 categories: economic, educational and community.  Click through to learn about how the creative economy contributes jobs, tax revenue, vibrant activities and educational opportunity that support quality of life, talent attraction and business investment in Michigan.

Jobs by budget size in the Creative State Report

The jobs and events at the 211 organizations in the Michigan Cultural Data Project  generate a wide range of business activity from paying rent to buying supplies and food, to hiring service contractors, all of which results in tax revenue.  The events attract tourists who buy meals, merchandise and stay in local hotels.
